What is Import Export Code?
Import Export code more commonly known as IEC is a ten-digit code number. It is given to an Importer or Exporter by the Director-General of Foreign Trade, Ministry of Commerce and Industries, Government of India. Any Entrepreneur who wishes to import something to India or export something from India requires an import-export code.
What are the benefits of IEC?
- On the basis of IEC, companies or firms can achieve a profit on their exports/ imports from DGFT, Customs, and export promotion council.
- IEC is necessary to import or export, without an importer/exporter code no import or export shall be made by any person or entity.

Documents Required for IEC Code (Import Export Code) :
If you thinking about starting an export-import business within India, you need to apply for a new IEC code certification. The import-export code is a 10 digit number that you would need to carry out the business.
These are the documents required to apply for an IEC code:
- Current Bank Account Details.
- Self-attested copy of the Aadhar card.
- Self-attested copy of the PAN (permanent account number ) card.
- Banker’s Certificate.
- Two copies of the passport size photograph of the applicant, which is duly attested by the banker of the applicant.
- Covering letter on the letterhead of the applicant’s company to request the issue of a new IEC Code Number.
